Tick-Tock

We all know people who wait for a certain event to mark the start of their life. To some, it may be the day they finish high school, to others, the day they find love.

What then, does everything preceding that dictate?

Life is what happens every day; it has,
from the day we took our first breath.

I look at a recent picture of a once vibrant teacher from primary, and wonder how long has it really been. From when I wondered when I would be done with uniforms. Then, when I would get into medicine.

And now, when I would graduate.

What is a 19 year old to say about the length of life, you ask? To me, those 19 years now seemed to have flown past. When did our eyesight deteriorate? When did our parents grow older? When did we move out? When did we have to make our own decisions?

When did we take all of that in passing?

No, I don't deem those milestones insignificant.
I say that they are, in every sense of the word, milestones.

Milestones of a journey that had a starting point.
Not a journey where we wait for one.

Breaths are going to be taken, the heart is going to pump.

Realisation is all we need to comprehend how
we can live today, tomorrow and the next, with flair.

How I can enjoy reading about the
biomechanics of breathing, and perhaps,
not dream about the day I see biologically mechanical lungs.

How I can start getting into shape now, and perhaps,
not wait for a day when I seize the luxury of time to join a fancy gym.

How I can learn more about my religion, and perhaps,
not wait for a day when I have to.

How I can make my parents proud, and perhaps,
become a distinguished doctor.

How I can go to sleep right now, and perhaps,
wake up for class tomorrow.

Artwork of the Week

If sex were to be personified, it would with surety, take form of the tiger.

This Artwork of the Week (or of the year rather) just arrests. And as I type this on my faux tiger skin bedspread, admiring the print of a magnificent Bengal Tiger that shall soon adorn that empty spot of wall above my bed, I am reminded of a childhood dream. A dream of how someday I would in fact, rear a tiger of my very own.

But I now realise how selfish a dream that was. We live in a time where the Bali, Javan and Persian tiger species are already extinct; The rest that remain are sadly endangered.

I now have a new dream: A dream to see these striped felines I adore so much, survive the generations of time. A dying world, as many choose to see our Earth as, just cannot afford to be sans tigers. It just can't.

Far to Go

"Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace,
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go,
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay."

~ Mother Goose

I was born on a glorious Thursday, some 19 years ago.
Then, I grew and I grew.
I learnt and I learnt.
But what if, on that eventful day, I hadn't been born?
What if it all was written out differently?

Should we question all the little what ifs,
and wonder how the picture would have been painted?

Or should we just be thankful and peer positively into the horizon?
To look past all the storms ahead.
And still have the zest to want to reach the sky.

And then some.

I know, with every fibre of my being, that I have far to go.
So much further.

But a casual look behind me,
fuels the desire to not only
want to continue on;
Rather to charge, with grace and goodness.

It sure helps to have a genuine smile
plastered on my face whilst I'm at it. =)

Quotable Quotes

"Are we human? Or are we dancer?
My sign is vital. My hands are cold
And I'm on my knees. Looking for the answer

Are we human? Or are we dancer?"

~ The Killers in their song, Human

Artwork of the Week

Out of the blue.

That's quite the comeback for this chapter that I started sometime back.

This AotW offers a different take on things.
Is what we perceive to see really in fact
what is there to be seen?
Or is there always another viewing-angle;

another set of eyes to view things through?

Resu-erection

I haven't done this in the longest time, almost forgot how to.

Anyway, going AWOL all this while has made me want to
delete this thing that people call a blog. But you know what?
You don't give up on something just because you're lazy.

I'm sorry, but for whatever godforsaken excuse I can chalk up,
laze will not be one of them. Haha, okay who am I kidding?

I just decided against it, on account of so many people having
deleted theirs. And I just don't go with the flow. A rebel perhaps? ;-)

So here I am, lying in this sea of a bed.
Sprawled. Supine. Smiling.
Nothing else could be better.

And the antibiotics I'm on seem to be making me all woozy.
So jack this bitch, I'm going to sleep.

Oh, and by the way, how clever is the title? =P

Smile

(Sigh of relief)
After months of agony, I can finally smile.
And not the fake kind of smile you reserve for old aunties.
The genuine type, you know, that is infectious.
Annoying, really.

I found out that I'm going to Monash University to pursue my MBBS.
Orientation starts on the 23rd, which is freaking me out because I can visualise the day. You know, like how when you have an exam,
and
its nearing, and you can actually see the day it starts
in this little calendar in your head.

Okay, maybe its just me then.

* * *

And don't be silly.
No, I'm not going off to Melbourne in 13 days.
That would be insane. I'm going to be at the Sunway campus.
But somehow, I don't really understand why the reaction that I seem to be getting is that I'm
just going to KL. Fine, fine, its only a four hour drive from Penang. But it'll be the very first time I'll be moving out.
Dude, laundry? How the hell does anyone figure out ironing?

Haha, don't mind me. After such a tumultuous journey,
I'm just finally contented.
Contented, and smiling.
Now lets go drink! =)

Bric-A-Brac

All good things come to those who wait.
BUT
Time and tide wait for no man.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
BUT
Actions speak louder than words.
You're never too old to learn.
BUT
You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Slow and steady wins the race.
BUT
Time and tide wait for no man.
Too many cooks spoil the broth.
BUT
Many hands make light work.
Birds of a feather flock together.
BUT
Opposites attract.
Doubt is the beginning of wisdom.
BUT
Faith will move mountains.
Silence is golden.
BUT
The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Wise men think alike.
BUT
Fools seldom differ.
Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
BUT
Out of sight, out of mind.
Look before you leap.
BUT
Strike while the iron is hot.
Hold fast to the words of your ancestors.
BUT
Wise men make proverbs and fools repeat them.

Quotable Quotes

"I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a god that I don't believe in"

~ The Script in their song, Breakeven

Artwork of the Week

It seems that as though, for these past few weeks, all my posts comprise AotW's, with intermittent thoughts that stir in my mind.

I have, of course, myself, and only myself to blame.
I just haven't been in the right frame of mind to express myself.
No, it is not writer's block. Its a thirst for inspiration.

And on the quest for stimulus, I came across this poem that changed something. So as the first poem to ever grace AotW, I present it to you, as how Wordsworth would have intended.

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed---and gazed---but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

William Wordsworth
